DOING NOTHING IS NOT AN OPTION
We can not afford to do anything but massive carbon sequestration. Net zero carbon emission won't work by itself.
Humans are responsible for 1.5 trillion tons of CO2 emitted since the industrial revolution. That's 1,500 billion tons aka 1,500 gigatons of CO2. If we were to double the rate of CO2 natural sequestration ~40 GT/yr) by phytoplankton to 80 GT/ year, it would take about 38 years to sequester the amount we emitted.
Wrap your head around this.. A railroad car can hold about 100 tons of compressed, liquified gas. That means that it would take 15 billion railroad cars to hold the amount of compressed gas equal to that humans are responsible for emitting.
An average railroad car is about 80 feet long. That means that a train holding the equivalent compressed gas emitted by man would wrap around the circumference (26,000 miles) of the earth 8,741 times!.

The relative concentration of CO2 has increased from 280 ppm (parts per million pre-industrial time) to 434 ppm (average today) or 0.028% to 0.043% That may seem inconsequential in comparison to 21% Oxygen or 78% Nitrogen. But CO2 has some specific properties that are very significant. It absorbs strongly in the IR which significantly insulates the planet by inhibiting radiative cooling and it is a Lewis acid which causes seawater to become more acidic.
434ppm CO2 is unprecedented over the past 800,000 years, We are seeing climate chabge iin real time, This is not weather fluctuatuing. It is stteady increase in temperature, The ability ofthe ocean to absorb the CO2 has limits. Whether the CO2 is causal to the increase in temperature is becoming a certainty,
